POSITION SUMMARY:
The Vice President of Medical Services is responsible for providing administrative and clinical leadership, direction, management and supervision for Wheeler medical staff. The Vice President of Medical Services is a member of the Operational Leadership Team and as such is expected to be the subject matter expert related to medical services, medical policy, medical quality assurance and utilization management. This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer of Wheeler Clinic.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides professional medical direction services to medical staff including psychiatrists and nurses maintaining and refining approved practice standards and quality assurance programs.
Keeps abreast of and ensures compliance with state and federal licensing and regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.
Provides medical expertise with respect to planning and establishing goals and polices to improve medical practice.
Contributes to the Health and Safety Committee on infection control, pharmacy and medication administration, storage and disposal procedures and disaster response planning.
Provides oversight for medical laboratory agreements and related clinic procedures.
Ensures adequate staffing and after hours coverage, appropriate training and supervision for medical staff.
Sets performance standards for medical staff to include productivity standards, compliance with practice guidelines, exceptional customer service and quality care and assesses, reviews and evaluates employee performance.
Designs and manages medical practice utilization to clinical and financial goals.
Ensures effective and effective flow of clients through each medical service unit.
Promotes, implements and fully utilizes all Clinic electronic applications for medical service management.
Works collaboratively and creatively with service department heads, access, billing, quality, department support staff and MIS to implement all clinic policy and procedure within medical services.
Analyzes clinical and financial trends within the medical services in order to manage to organizational goals and objectives and promptly address adverse trends that impact productivity, utilization and/or quality clinical care.
Provides direct services to include psychiatric evaluation and consultation, medication management, and coordination with Clinic program staff, primary and specialty care physicians.
Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.
Demonstrates leadership by reinforcing positive behavior and promoting recognition through the use of effective employee evaluations, employee appreciation, effective hiring practices, and accountability.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must have a medical degree from an accredited medical school plus a minimum of 10 years of practice experience as a board certified MD in psychiatry in hospital based or community behavioral health, and experience in the development and management of multi-disciplinary medical teams, utilization and quality assurance programs or an equivalent combination of relevant advanced education and/or experience.
Candidates must have all required current and valid Connecticut licenses; continuing medical education to meet organizational and state licensing requirements; and current and valid board certification in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
COMPENSATION:
A competitive compensation package including annual salary and incentive bonus will be offered. Relocation will be considered if required.
