The United Illuminating Company, headquartered in New Haven, Connecticut is an investor-owned regional electric utility that provides service to more than 320,000 customers in the greater New Haven and Bridgeport area. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team in our Orange facility.
The Project Manager will participate in and when appropriate lead or direct cross-functional process improvement teams and foster cooperation and "fair process" within and across functions and processes to achieve common goals. Lead teams in project tracking & control (e.g. CPM schedule, cost, resources) collecting individual project status information and developing project updates for management review. Identify and recommends process improvement. Plan and coordinate various aspects of the project life cycle. Prepare and maintain project management records and documentation as required. Obtain Regulatory and Municipal permits as required. Recognized expert within the organization and/or industry. Provide the necessary support as outlined in UI's Project Management (PM) reference manual (e.g. project charter, needs assessment, analysis, solution, initiation, plan, execution, control, close out). Implementing process improvements including designing and implementing labs, pilots, and multiple releases of a staged improvement and ensuring effective management ownership of the implemented new process. Explain difficult concepts and influences others. Collaborate with the project team to implement and control the project (e.g. status report, sponsor updates, team communications). Interpret customer/sponsor requirements. Leads others to resolve complex problems in non-standard situations. Lead project management analyses to apply specific skills and knowledge to meet project requirements. Develop business cases for projects/programs and related budgetary documents. Monitor and control costs within work and project budget. Manage project/process teams including coordination of resources outside of own area using best practices.
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in business, Engineering, or related field. Graduate degree or post-graduate course work in business or related area is preferred. Specific coursework in project management required. UI internal project management certification (PMCP) must be obtained within one year of entry into the position. Although a PMP Certification is not required for entry into this level it is highly desired. Seven years of related project or process improvement experience. Must have demonstrated project management experience as a project manager particularly leading cross-functional team member on medium to large sized complex projects or process redesign efforts. Ability to understand and communicate the link of project activities to business strategy. Must have skills in the use of project management methodology, tools, such as, Microsoft Project, Primavera and be knowledgeable in the use of other project management tools and techniques. Must possess strong writing and verbal skills with the ability to create and deliver effective project reports and presentations. Must communicate well with all project stakeholders.
