          Job Description:

          The United Illuminating Company, headquartered in New Haven, Connecticut is an investor-owned regional electric utility that provides service to more than 320,000 customers in the greater New Haven and Bridgeport area. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team in our Orange facility.

          The Standard Field Supervisor will apply management expertise to resolve problems and provide guidance to employees. Has a depth of expertise in a technical area; knowledge of work processes and tools is generally limited to own area. Provide daily operations direction to a large group of employees; this includes scheduled evening and weekend coverage. Also, available for on-call coverage of outages and storm work. Provides guidance for challenging customer service interactions, including service turn-offs. May be required to travel to customers' homes to provide support for employees or to investigate complaints. Conducts quality assurance programs with employees, manages time/attendance, conducts performance audits and provides feedback/instruction to employees. Conducts progressive discipline as necessary. Conducts grievance meetings with employees and union delegates. May lead/participate in joint union-management work groups or projects. Identifies and resolves operational and technical problems within a team using defined processes, policies and procedures; Interprets customer/stakeholder needs and assesses requirements for resolution. Accountable for the performance of a team. Coordinates and supervises the daily activities of business support, technical or operations team; sets priorities for employees to meet daily deadlines; develops plans to meet short-term objectives. Decisions are guided by operating procedures that are within the policies, processes and procedures of the Department. Providing guidance, leadership and training to service technicians, in the field and the office. This position provides technical guidance for internal and external customers for the installation of overhead or underground services and metering equipment. Developing and maintaining a professional relationship with contractors, state and municipal agencies in addressing issues or questions regarding electrical services or metering equipment. This position requires working during storms or emergencies, evening hours and weekends. Works within budgetary/ financial objectives set by next level of leadership; may manage responsibility center.

          This position requires an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college/university in electrical engineering or related field and 11 years professional level experience in a utility or related field. Candidate must have a CT E-1 electrical license. Experience managing field employees in a union environment desirable. Proficiency in excel and Microsoft office suite required, familiarity with SAP and payroll software desirable. Experience with OSHA, safety procedures/training preferred. Strong communication skills required for extensive phone work, contact with customers at their location, resolving concerns of employees. Ability to coach/lead/motivate; develop a vision - achieve buy-in; set direction, work with others to achieve results; allow freedom to attain goals; change strategies and opinions to match the needs of the situation; develop people; capable of developing reporting systems. Valid Connecticut drivers license with a clean record, able to drive company owned trucks. Must travel throughout service territory.
