Job Summary:
3M is seeking a Laboratory Technician for the 3M Purification Division. This opportunity will support scientists and product development engineers by performing complex laboratory tasks for problems of unusual complexity or of a non-routine basis. This is a first shift opportunity.
Roles and Responsibilitiesinclude but are not limited to the following:
Prioritizes, schedules, and conducts complex tests and experiments with minimal supervision. Reformats, creates, and builds prototypes for the development of new products.
Assists in the design of experiments by monitoring process conditions and recommending process changes and/or additions.
Experiments with various statistical and/or test methods to determine the optimum test procedures, formulas, and/or approaches.
Develops and modifies existing test methods and/or equipment as needed.
Obtains and produces lab samples needed for testing.
Interprets, evaluates, and communicates project status and test results to customers through appropriate documentation such as the technical notebook.
Makes recommendations for scale-up or transfer based on test results.
Provides work direction and training to new personnel and other laboratory technicians on test methods, procedures, and equipment usage and maintenance.
Leads and participates in various teams and quality circles to facilitate product quality and safety.
Assures availability of raw materials by maintaining and ordering supplies used in testing. Prepares and maintains laboratory records (data sheets, graphs, charts, files, etc.) on an up-to-date basis.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Location and Travel:The position ofLaboratory Technician will be located inMeriden, CTand will not include travel.
Basic Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.
Minimum of 1 year laboratory technician experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associates degree or two year technical degree.
Minimum of 1 year product development technician experience.
Strong mechanical aptitude and demonstrated examples of problem solving skills.
Ability to complete work with little supervision and work well in a team environment.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Positive attitude and ability to interact well with customers.
Ability to be flexible in handling change within the workplace.
